DI BENEDETTO CONCLUDES 2023 SEASON WITH A PODIUM AT CTMP
Vaughan (Ontario), September 12, 2023 - Justin Di Benedetto and Di Benedetto Racing wrapped up a thrilling season with an action-packed event at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. The Labour Day Weekend Sprints featured three races over the course of the final round of the Sports Car Championship Canada season, which saw Justin Di Benedetto claim a second place finish in the TCR class in Race 2. Di Benedetto concluded the championship in third place in the TCR class standings with 270 points.
Race 2 was the highlight of the weekend for him and the team, with intense on-track battles putting his skillset and hard work on full display. He lined up in second place on the grid in his InsuJet Gen 2 Audi RS3 LMS as the field prepared to go green. Di Benedetto was on the charge and followed leader Dean Baker extremely closely, and the two went wheel to wheel across multiple corners. He promoted himself to first place after pulling off a sweeping move going into Turn 3, and further managed to give himself an extra cushion by slotting ahead of a GT4 competitor, creating a buffer between himself and Baker.
As the race progressed, the gap closed up again, with traffic from the TCA class adding extra hurdles for Di Benedetto to get past. Baker was able to regain the lead around Turn 8 after the halfway mark of the race. In the final laps of the race, Di Benedetto kept Baker in his sights while managing a potential threat from Richard Boake approaching from third place. He crossed the finish line and brought home his second P2 finish of the season.
Although Di Benedetto was forced to retire in the other two races due to circumstances out of his and the team’s control, he showed great pace throughout the weekend and demonstrated that they had a very strong car and a highly competitive package.
Overall, Di Benedetto and Di Benedetto Racing secured very strong results over the course of the championship, accumulating three wins and two podiums throughout the season. They claimed victories and top results at some of Canada’s most famous and challenging tracks, including a second-place finish followed by two consecutive wins at the renowned Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières. They consistently battled in the pointier end of the field and proved themselves as race winners and championship contenders.
“We ended the season P3 in the TCR championship standings and I’m very proud that we were able to extract three wins and five podiums this season,” said Justin Di Benedetto. “I learned a lot this year and we have made significant progress as a team. I’d like to extend a very big thank you to all our sponsors and partners this season, their continued support allows for all of this to be possible."
He concluded by saying, "It was a pleasure working with our race engineer, Craig Willis, the team at Bestline Autotech and Joel Watts throughout the season. I want to thank everyone for a great year. Lastly, I would like to thank my family for their continued support after all these years. We're looking forward to what 2024 has in store!"
